IS 2190, India's code of practice for first-aid fire extinguishers, sets a tiered regime: a monthly visual check by trained in-house staff, a quarterly inspection whose records Factories Act premises are expected to maintain, and a more thorough annual inspection by a certified technician. Refilling is done annually and after any discharge, even a partial one, with hydrostatic testing on a five-yearly cycle.
Under the Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures Act, 2006, the owner or occupier of a covered building must have its fire-fighting installations inspected by a licensed fire safety agency and furnish the prescribed certificate to the Chief Fire Officer twice a year, in January and July. Other states operate their own equivalents. The obligation sits with the occupier, not the vendor.
A fire safety audit is a systematic examination of a building against Part 4 — Fire and Life Safety of the National Building Code of India 2016: fire load, compartmentation, escape routes, detection, suppression and NOC status. The Code also expects periodic inspection by the building's own occupants, and it places the responsibility for keeping installations in working order squarely on the owner or occupier.
